A positive outlook for the new year :: start small.
Today is the first day of the rest of your life.
Or something like that...
As arbitrary as it may seem, the switch over to a new year definitely does help us to reset, take a breath and get on with those things we've been holding back from doing.
Today, make a list of the 5 smallest things that you put off in 2008. I'm not talking resolutions to lose weight, or drastically change your exercise routine. I'm not talking about quitting your job or being more social. This list cannot contain anything too monumental.
Pick things like treating yourself to a really nice, long-lasting pair of shoes, or deciding to always immediately wash a dish after you use it, instead of putting it in the sink, half dirty. You know, things that are reasonably insignificant and relatively easy to choose to do. I sincerely believe that adjusting the tiniest of things will snowball into a sense of accomplishment that will only help to make those huge changes easier to conquer.

5 small achieveable goals - what a fantastic idea. Feeling more motivated already.
Happy, Happy New Year!
I like this--I vowed not to read one more New Year resolution post--but I am glad I read this one.
What a lovely idea! My #1 would be to get a really nice haircut!
I love it. Sometimes I am appalled at myself for letting, literally, years go by without doing little things like hanging things on my wall, finishing craft projects or putting photos in an album. I guess you do have to make a conscious decision to get even the little things done!
P.S. I love checking in with your blog, it is always filled with beautiful and inspiring things.

i love this idea. staying on top to these small things can free you from excessive stress. it clears your mind for new and unexpected opportunities. best wishes for a successful 2009.
wonderful post - i will most definitely be making a list :) it takes the worry off of completing those monumental things you mentioned.
happy blogging and happy living :)
Such a good idea, Emily. One year I decided I would always have a pen with me--in my handbag, in my car, wherever I went, since being a writer, I always seemed to be caught without one. It changed my life. Seriously. I need to think of another good one and this post is a great inspiration.
Wishing you all things wonderful & stylish in the new year!
