WMMG? :: Print Gocco PG6

So, I feel like I haven't posted nearly enough about the Gocco and all it's glory... Although I have posted about

  • my OrangeBeautiful promo cards, here and here
  • the invites to April's birthday at Bin36, AND

...all printed (with love) on my B6 Gocco printer...

Now, for about 2 years, the fate of the Gocco in the States has been up in the air... RISO - the company that invented the printer & all its components and counterparts - discontinued its distribution of the Gocco in the U.S. and stopped manufacturing some of the machines altogether (like my precious B6). Despite the abundance of supplies available for those who already own a Print Gocco machine (I was told by a representative at RISO that they didn't anticipate screen, bulbs & inks to "run out" for at least a year), many crafters have been waiting to hear that someone would begin new distribution of the printers in the States.

Only a few weeks ago, Chicago-based retail paper chain, Paper Source updated their website to include pre-order information for the PG6 (large-format) Gocco and its supplies. And despite the hefty price tag, I've ordered one for the company... trust me, it'll be worth every penny. You can order one here, but if you're new to Gocco, I would suggest trying to get your hands on the smaller one first... it may take a little effort (& possibly some bidding on eBay - but I have a feeling the larger version is a bit tricky if you've never used a Gocco before.

on eBay, search for either "Gocco B6", or "Gocco PG".

And, of course, feel free to contact me (or leave a comment) if you have any Gocco questions - I'm happy to help.

Also, savegocco.com is an excellent site for all things Gocco.

Wow I'm super excited to start my GOCCO search!! I've never heard about it but really am interested. Any advice as to where is the best place to purchase one, the latest models and what price range I should expect so I'm not totally ripped of.

I am planning to do my wedding invitations on a Gocco. I was originally looking at the PG-11 but want to do 5x7 prints. Would the PG6 be the best option? Does it allow for registration?

Thanks! Julia

I have never used a Gocco, but I have worked in printing for 17 years. Regarding the flashbulbs; Would it be possible to replace it with a small electronic flash used for cameras?(like Vivitar, etc.). It would have to have a 'manual' firing button, which not every flash has. This flash would equal or better the light of the flashbulb. I don't know the exact mechanics of the Gocco, but this idea might work for some people and you would never have to buy flashbulbs again.I hope this gives you some experimental direction to move in. Good Luck!

I've learned the NEHOC will not ship any Riso product to the US. Bummer, I'm looking for a reasonably priced pg5; and also can't seem to find the pg6 at paper-source, went into the store the other day and they weren't that helpful...

hi, emily -

have you received your PG6 from Paper Source? I am wondering if you think it's too tough to learn on as a beginner...

thanks for the update,

yeah!... I'm glad I could help!

Once you've gotten your hands on one, the best places to buy supplies (in my opinion) are as follows:

Wet Paint

and

THINK INK

good luck with your Gocco hunt!

the answer to a question posed by tto:

The B6 is actually totally out of production... something about retiring the patent to that specific machine - however the model that will be available to you in Australia are the "replacement models" to the B6, which are the PG5 or PG11 -

My machine that you see here is a B6 (that I got about 4 years ago) - however, Jw bought a PG5 from an Australian vendor and it's only minorly different (and it's ORANGE!)...

oh, and the Australian company that distributes the GOCCO is called NEHOC...

I hope this helps!
